I know that this might be a topic that will not be of much interest to experienced bloggers, but since I am trying to also cover newbie blogging topics, I wanted to make this step by step guide on how to embed a video on your blog. This will cover embedding a video on a wordpress blog, however it will help you with any other blog software as well. Let’s start.

You have seen an interesting video on Youtube or some other video sharing site, and you wanted to embed it on your site or blog. Well the process is very simple as the matter of fact. You need to find a form field with embed code - here is the example of embed code location on Youtube.com:

You need to know that some videos don’t have this field, or they have it disabled per request. Those are mostly videos published by certain copyrighted channels or exclusive videos that their owners wouldn’t like to see posted on some other sites.

After you found the embed code, you can copy it in your clipboard (CTRL+A to select and then CTRL+C to copy). Next thing you need to do is to go to your blog dashboard, start a new post and then when you want to insert a embedded video. You need to switch to HTML editor and then you simply paste the embed code in the post box. And that should be it. I like to center my videos and that Is why I usually put <center> before and </center> after the embed video code and then start the text after in a new paragraph.

What I would like to point here is that Wordpress and other blog publishing software often mess with embed video code, especially if you edit a post that has a video in it. It very often result in a broken video and you need to embed it again. Although it happens often on many blogs I found very little discussion about this “bug” on the internet. To be honest I am surprised to see that this is something that occurs often even in some recent Wordpress versions. What you can do is to try to first write your post and then insert embed code at the end. That will preserve your video and it will work normally. Please understand that if you want to edit this post later your video embed code will most probably be messed and you will need to find and copy it again from youtube or wherever you copied it from.

To conclude here is one embedded video for you:
