Many people don’t know how to start their online business. They seem to endlessly browse the net searching for ideas, looking for top paying keywords and paying people for tips that will never work. I am not saying none of these methods work, however I would suggest a completely different approach. People interests differ greatly. For instance, women are generally more interested in beauty and children related topics, while men usually focus to tech related topics. Of course, this is not a rule. It shows some basic differences in people’s areas of interest. And idea is to choose the interest that is as close as possible to something that you understand, and have some knowledge of. Perfect match would be a topic that you not only understand, but also love. That site is on a highway to success.
Ok, I like having fun, watching funny clips, funny pics, reading celebrity gossip etc. That is where the second part of choosing your future site topics comes in place. The capitalization. You need to think about choosing the market that would be somewhat profitable (if you think about earning money with your website). As far as fun and leisure sites are concerned, the basic logic says that people come to these sites in their leisure time or to have fun. They are not visiting them to buy products or services. Thus the capitalization on these sites is not huge (It’s important to note that I am not saying there is no money in all these types of sites, I am referring to average small to mid size niche site/blog capitalization, not some mega market-share video site like youtube or such). That is when exploring and learning comes handy. There are plenty of tools that can give you general idea about keyword / topic popularity (some free ones are listed here), so you need to devote some time exploring which markets would be interesting to start with. Some generally good markets are personal finance, beauty tips, home decor etc. People visit those sites in need to get some information and they are often prepared to pay for it.
It’s crucial to understand that your site should never focus on sucking money off the innocent visitors. That tactics will NEVER earn you money in long run. As you probably figured out from my posts, I never refer to hit and run sites. My choice was always to do things in the long run, and it has never appeared clearer than today that this is the healthy logic and the only way to do things online these days. I’ve seen a number of internet guru’s disappear off the face of the internet during the last 3-4 years. Why? Coz their sites were full of junk. “But they earned piles of money” some say. Yes they did, however the focus of this blog is not about “how some folks got rich on the internet in the past” but “how to get rich on the internet today and in the future“. And the future is bright, believe me.
The final step is choosing the domain name of your future site, however that is something that I will discuss in one of the future topics on this site. Till then enjoy life and choose your next site topic with care.
